Keeping your child & family healthy
It is no secret that maintaining perfect hygiene can be a challenge. While we always advocate for common sense measures like washing hands and being careful with street food, our environment often has other plans. Because typhoid remains a significant health risk locally, the Typhoid Vaccine for kids in Mumbai is your child’s most reliable secondary line of defense.
Medical guidelines have advanced significantly. At Nathani Clinic, we primarily use the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV). The clinic primarily uses the Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV), which represents a major step up from older versions. This vaccine allows administration to much younger children and offers longer-lasting protection.
The first dose: Recommended as early as 6 months of age.
The follow-up: Children should receive a booster shot around two years of age.
Superior Immunity: Unlike older “polysaccharide” shots that required a booster every three years, the TCV provides robust, long-term immunity.
If your little one recently had a bout with typhoid, their natural immunity won’t last forever. We recommend waiting about 4 to 6 weeks after they have fully recovered before administering the vaccine. This ensures that their immune system rests and can respond well to the shot.
Most children breeze through the vaccination with nothing more than a slightly sore arm. You might notice:
Mild fever or a headache for a day.
A little redness or swelling where the needle went in.
In very rare cases, a child might have an allergic reaction (like hives or wheezing). If that happens, contact us or head to the nearest emergency room immediately. However, keep in mind that the risk of serious complications from a typhoid infection is far greater than the risk of the vaccine.
Since typhoid doesn’t check birth certificates, we recommend that adults in the household also stay updated. If you haven’t had a typhoid shot in the last few years, it might be time for a quick visit to the clinic.
